Once a year,
I visit Egyptian workshops in search of new and traditional crafts.
While sipping endless cups of mint tea,
we discuss our families first, business second. When the former is
thoroughly covered, the parade of new designs begins.
The artisans pride themselves on
continually developing and changing shapes, sizes, colors and entirely
new products. It is a delight to see!
My relationship with Egypt began in 1980
when I accepted a job at an American school in the suburbs of Cairo.
Eleven years later, when I moved on with my
family to live and teach in another part of the Middle East, I was drawn
to return again and again until I finally realized my future would always
have to include regular visits to Egypt.
I hope you also appreciate these beautiful objects
from Egypt. Stay tuned, perhaps I'll start escorting shopping trips
someday!
